Excited…and well, maybe a little nervous

Tomorrow is the big day! Mrs. S. and I are leaving here around 8 am and taking our chances that we won't be number 15,786th in line! I have my 2 page application complete and I am also taking the 11 page application I already had filled out to show my dedication! LOL I'm not just some fly-by-nighter that showed up on a whim, I'm serious in my endeavor to be on DOND. I got my nails done (with the cutest trio of pastel flowers on the ring finger of each of my hands) and I got a new head-to-toe outfit. KK & SS were most impressed with the new bra! LOL All I kept getting from them was "MOM, OHHHH MY GOSH!!" I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions on what that means! The top has some glitter on it, so I decided to go for broke with these shoes: http://qurl.com/mgm1z . I will be able to wear the whole outfit at the bank, so I don't feel like it was a total waste. : )

One of the questions on the 2 page application they are asking for at this audition is "What is the most outrageous thing you have ever done?". I think this was the most difficult for me to answer. I'm not really what I'd consider the outrageous type. I'm silly, whacky, maybe even a little dorky (okay..okay.. a lot) but not really what I'd consider by most people's standards, outrageous. I finally decided to answer the question just that way. I don't think being outrageous is what would make me a good contestant – I think my draw would be just more of "let's see the small town mom do well". We all love that right, seeing somebody who could be our neighbor, our co-worker, or even us do good? Plus… I am a little whacky and dorky for sure, I'll probably try to play that up a bit too!

I hope I will be able to let myself shine through. I don't want to get all worked up and freak myself out. I am trying to do like the little guru guy tells Inspector Gadget as he is helping him utilize all his gizmos, "visual your goals". (And at later as he is using the guru's advice Inspector Gadget is able to take down a helicopter with a ball point pen.) I am visualizing myself standing on the stage with Howie and the models and being confident I just picked myself a million dollar case!

So, wish me luck and I'll be sure to report on all the results.

You Will Lose 100%

of the chances you never take. The ever knowledgeable Mrs. S. imparted this wisdom to me a few weeks ago. She is one smart cookie, that Mrs. S.!

A few months ago, I got this great idea on Monday night as I was watching TV with my girls…… I could be on Deal or No Deal! Heck, I'm silly enough. I can jump up and down and scream with excitement with the best of them! I have an angle; I am a single-mom living in po-dunk nowhere – just having quit a job I'd had for 20 years with a mortgage for the first time! I have great supporters, Mrs. S., Gem, a past co-worker, maybe a few current co-workers. I have the whole "I LOVE JEWELRY" twist. I'd be terrific!

Then I downloaded the application – ohhhhh my goodness. 11 pages of writing a rap, drawing a self-portrait, saying I'd never been convicted of a felony, and every other little incident in my life, I had my application filled out. Now I just needed a 5 minute video (on VHS no less!) to send off. That was the kicker for me… I was having a hard time getting it going. Ideas floated around in my head. I have been very busy lately with other life things, and not had enough time to actually get it done.

So….. imagine my excitement tonight when I was watching DOND and they flashed across the screen that they are having an open casting this Tuesday, April 01 at a casino only about 120 miles from where I live!!!! I am allllllllll kinds of excited. They said that the open call would be from 12-4 and that anybody in the line by 4 pm would be allowed a 1st round audition!!! Ohhhh my!

Do you think that there will be 1000's of people? What should I wear? Should I dress up? (what if we have to stand in line for like 6 hours or something?!?!?!?) or dress down? OHHHH MY Goodness! I'm hoping that Mrs. S can go with me!!!! I know it will be a tough squeeze for her since next week is Spring Break and she has 5 kids – but after all she is the one who inspired me to at least take my chance!

Any wisdom and comments of any sort are welcome! J

The Players

Because we are on the web, and we can only be so careful these days – I probably will only tell you my name (see the other post for my issues with that!). All the other people running around in my life we'll have cute little nicknames for this blog purpose. So here goes:

DD#1 – KK She is 10, in 5th grade and a hand full by any stretch of the imagination! She is very social and loves nothing more than talking on the phone to her friends and bugging her little sister. She is a clogger, a budding cello-ist, and loves softball. Well, okay she loves anything that lets her go hang out with her friends.

DD#2 – SS She is 8 and in 3rd grade. A much different little girl than her sister and we love that she lives her life on her own beat. She likes Digimon, Power Rangers, and Pokemon. She goes to clogging, but just because she doesn't want her sister to get something she doesn't.

The Pets – Well, okay – I'll tell you their real names! LOL Daisy is your doggy. She is a shi tzu princess and rules the household. Sunshine is our calico and is a nice friendly loving kitty. She makes me happy with her loving rubs and fat cat attitude. Mimzy is the new guy on the block. He is a tabby and still a baby even though he is starting to look like a lion! He is a klutz, where as Sunshine can jump and climb with ease and never knocks anything over – he is an accident waiting to happen.

BFF – We'll call her Mrs. S. I don't know how she'll feel about that – LOL, but, heck it is my blog! I've had her in my life since I was 10 and there are many times that I'm grateful for the fact she decided I'd be a good friend on that day in 5th grade.

My best friend who is not my BFF – Let me tell you something about my little Gem: she rocks my world. Seriously. She is the person I know that if I can turn to if I need help. Everything from the lost keys in the garbage to taking my kids for 5 days while I'm gone to a convention – she is always there to help me. I was blessed that day 9 years ago she entered my life.

The ex – hmmmm…. We'll just call him LMS and leave it at that.

I'll probably update this occasionally as I talk about others and what to explain who they are!

What’s in a Name?

Welcome to my mindless musings about my single mom life in rural Washington State. We'll be talking about in no particular order: my occasionally weird, sometimes boring life in a small town, my two wonderful daughters, how much I love jewelry, what I'm cooking for dinner (or just because) and well, pretty much anything else that happens into my brain!

Let's start with my issues with my name!

Birth Certificate:    Melody Sue

What I'd tell you if we met and I wasn't going to sign anything for you:    Susie

What I'd tell you if you were going to make me sign something:    Melody

What people call me if they've know me since before I was 18:    Sue

What people call me if they were introduced to me by my ex:    Susan

What those people wandering in my house wanting to know when dinner is going to be:    Mommy, Momma, Mom, MOTHER!!!

What my ex-boss used to call when he wanted me to do something:    Sus

What people say when they are feeling song-like:    Susie-Q

What my Hispanic friends call me:    Susanna

If I could go back to being a tiny-tiny baby, swaddled in my momma's arms – I'd tell her: Please call me Melody, or please name me Susie!

And YOU – Mrs. S. I know that little blonde loves you – but someday she is gonna wonder what the heck you were thinking!
